The MTC has been closed down for the last three weeks so the area presidency gave us permission to take a little break and go somewhere that wasn't too far away. So, with So. Africa being pretty busy with the World Cup and prices being pretty high to travel here, we decided to go to the island of Mauritius. It is a beautiful place just east of Madagascar. We had only heard about it through Wendy years ago when she would always talk about wanting to go to Mauritius.

The resort we stayed at was beautiful and they waited on us every waking moment. They served beautiful buffet breakfasts and dinners and we felt like we were on a cruise there was so much food. It was all included in a package deal so of course we sampled every dessert and every entree! Yes, we are a few pounds heavier and now suffering because of it.

We played a lot of golf and did quite a bit of touring around the island. You get to the golf course by boat because it is on another little island. It was very beautiful, but also very challenging. We purchased a lot of "experienced" balls as they call them.

It is always so enlightening to see how fabulous the resorts are and then to go see the "real" deal. It appears that most of the Mauritians are very poor. Their living conditions were pretty bad and the shops were quite dirty and dingy. I felt sad for them and once again was so grateful for the blessing of living in America. They were a very warm and friendly people.

The island is just covered in sugar cane They also grow pineapple, bananas, and several other tropical fruits.

I think we must have been the only Americans that have ever visited that island. They always just assumed that we were from the UK. Americans never go there because it is literally half way around the world! There are so many other closer islands for Americans to visit.

We had a fabulous time and a great rest and are now ready to crank up this MTC again.

We spent the last week-end at a bush camp and will post those pics after this new intake which happens today.
