Sister Manero from Kenya going to Uganda and Sister Ndahalele from Namibia going to Kenya. Sister Ndahalele, on the right, has been very interested in the Church since she was thirteen, but her mom refused to let her join. She would tell her mom she was going to church and then instead of heading to the Lutheran Church, which her mom thought she was doing, she would go to the Mormon Church. She loved it there and felt the Spirit and knew she wanted to be a part of all that, but if she even mentioned it, her mom went ballistic. Finally at the age of twenty-three she moved out of her mom's house and was soon baptized. Then when she made the decision to go on a mission she asked her mom if she would help support her. Her mom is well off and has four different businesses. Mom was devastated that her daughter had made this decision and did everything she could think of to stop it. She even gave Sister Ndahalele some money to give to the Bishop to keep her home. Her mom has never married and so an uncle is kind of "head" of the family and he thought he could get a lawyer, sue the Church, and make her stay home. When he took the attorney to the Bishop, the Bishop said that they were not forcing her to do this. It was her own choice and he would not interfere. Mom and uncle were both very, very upset. Knowing her mom would not help her, she got two different jobs and worked like crazy to save and the ward is helping with what she couldn't come up with. The uncle had made the comment to her sister that if they couldn't stop her legally, he would just have to beat her. Her uncle can be quite abusive so when she heard this, her sister encouraged her to pack up and leave early. A senior couple helped her get to Botswana where she spent time with the sister missionaries there until it was time to come into the MTC. She has a degree in clinical psychology, has an abundance of energy and spirit, and is an amazing gal! Her testimony is very strong and she is determined to share it with others because it has made her so happy in spite of the problems with her mom and uncle. She will write her mom, send pictures, and hope that in the next eighteen months that her mom's heart will soften.
