"Kente" Cloth from Ghana

We received this beautiful piece of Kente Cloth today in the mail from a former missionary who was here about a year ago, Elder Fokuo. He is from Ghana and he asked his brother to make this for us. "Kente" is a brilliantly colorful fabric, that is hand woven. Every design has a story with a meaning. They make all kinds of amazing, intricate designs. They usually wear it for ceremonies, festivals, and other sacred occasions. It is also given as a gift for weddings, child naming ceremonies, graduations, and other special events. All the colors have special meanings. The blue in this piece symbolizes holiness, peace, harmony, good fortune, and love. The yellow is a symbol for things that are holy and precious.
