We had a few days of "off" time left after the girls went home, so we did a little sight seeing. Our manager, Mark, recommended some places to see and we were delighted with all of it! Africa has a lot of beauty!

At God's Window we saw the largest man-made forest in the Southern Hemisphere, we saw lots of farm land, sugar cane fields, beautiful rivers, waterfalls, interesting people, unique ways the African people live, incredible mountains, etc. etc. We felt badly that we missed seeing the Drakensberg Boy's Choir. They perform every Wednesday and we were there on a week-end.

Once again, we realized how very blessed we are as we saw so very, very many of the African people with such little means. One of their greatest talents is creating a thing of beauty out of nothing. Baskets out of tree roots, telephone wire, and from plastic potato bags. They use it all! They carve beautiful bowls, animals, nativities, Noah's ark, and a whole lot more!

One interesting thing we saw in Swazi was a shipment from the DI that did not go to the needy people, but was being sold at the market. Elder Blackburn says that it is rare when a humanitarian effort gets in the right hands and goes to the intended people. Someone in their family had worked on a program collecting shoes for people. They collected about 16,000 pair of shoes, but they never did get onto the feet of the people they were targeted for. Crazy stuff!

  3. Wow. How fun. I had no idea Africa had those mountains. It looks like you had a great time and saw some beautiful things. You'd think they'd have a better process for humanitarian items. I too am so glad for Linda. :)
