The seminar was held at the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront Hotel. It was a beautiful sight to eat lunch or dinner and view the waterfront with the ships coming and going. The best thing about the seminar was being with all of these incredible presidents and their wives (double click for a better view). Talk about serving with cheerful hearts and complete consecration! When you realize the difficulty of being in the Congo or in Uganda or any number of other situations, you admire them greatly. Makes our mission in LA seem so easy in comparison. We really don't have a clue! We were blessed to have electricty, fresh running water, heat in the winter and cool air in the summer, and oiled roads! Seven of these couples have already served one mission in South Africa.
In order for us to remember. . . . . From L to R: Elder & Sister Watson of the Area Presidency (recently assigned to New Zealand), Pres. & Sister Probst of Cape Town (from Heber City), Pres. & Sister Poulsen of Johannesburg (soon to be released and head back to SLC), Elder & Sister Renlund (has been a counselor in the Area Presidency - soon to be the new Pres. of the area), Brother & Sister Holmes (over Church Construction in SA), Elder & Sister Koelliker (He has been the Area Pres. for the last four years & will be returning to SLC in July), Pres. & Sister Broadbent of the Kenya Mission (she used to serve on the YW Gen. Board), Pres. & Sister Headlee of the DR Congo Kinshasa Mission (actually from St. George, but we didn't know them there - they will head home in July), Pres. & Sister Von Stetten from the Durban Mission, Pres. & Sister Donnelly from the Madagascar Mission, Pres. & Sister Spendlove from the Mozambique Mission (they are from St. George, but we didn't know them there), Elder & Sister Lewis (Executive Secretary to the Area Presidency), Pres. & Sister Jackson from the Uganda Mission, Pres. & Sister Dube from the Zimbabwe Mission, Pres. & Sister Packer from the DR Congo Lubumbashi Mission (they are in Aunt Kathy's ward), and Elder & Sister Pearson, the visiting authority for the conference. They will be going to New Zealand to serve in the Area Presidency there soon. He was a very powerful, motivating speaker! We learned a lot from him.
These pictures show the beautiful waterfront by our hotel, the Lion's Head Peak, the Cape of Good Hope and Cape Point. We are standing on top of Table Mountain looking down on the city and the water. We had a perfect day to go sight seeing. No cloth (cloud cover) over the table.A lot of people think that the Cape of Good Hope is the southern tip of Africa because it was once believed to be the dividing point between the Atlantic and Indian Oceans. But, we learned that the southernmost point is actually about 90 miles to the east-southeast and is called Cape Agulhas. When following the western side of the African coastline from the equator, however, the Cape of Good Hope marks the point where a ship begins to travel more eastward than southward.
The sailors call it "the Cape." It is a waypoint on the clipper route followed by clipper ships to the Far East and Australia.
Wonderful pictures! Africa has many, many beauties! Table Mountain looks like a fun place to visit. Your conference sounded very good too. Have fun with your big group of missionaries!
