We ship 'em in and we ship 'em out and time seems to fly!

This was probably our most diverse group ever. They came from Canada, Great Britain, Australia, the US, Tanzania, DRC, Uganda, Kenya, and a dozen from relatively close by areas. One that came to us from SA via Riverton, Utah had an interesting story. His mom and dad were divorced when he was just 18 mos. old. Dad moved to Utah and mom stayed in Port Elizabeth with the kids. This young man had never met his dad and when he turned 18 he wanted to go to Riverton, Utah to meet him. He ended up joining the Church there and staying almost a year. He decided he wanted to serve a mission, but needed to wait a couple of months until he had been in the Church a year. His visa was up and he needed to come back to SA, but his mom and none of his family would allow him back home or even talk to him because he had joined the Church. He had nowhere to go, but had to get out of the US. Soooooo. . . . . . He put in his papers to serve and received a call to the Joburg Mission. Several weeks before he was to report to the MTC, they sent him to the Joburg Mission to live with some missionaries and serve with them until it was time to come into the MTC. It would be as if he was home just working with the missionaries every day, but he would actually be living with them. He had no place to go! When he came here, he still hadn't been in the Church a year so he was unable to receive his endowment. He will be going to the Temple on July 11th and has asked us to be there with him. We are excited to do that.

  1. How in the world could parents turn their backs on their son . . . for any reason? How sad, and yet, what a great blessing that he has the Gospel of Jesus Christ in his life . . . and you, to love him!

  2. Hard to imagine, huh? Many similar stories such as this as these young Africans join the Church. Hope that at some point mom will soften and allow him back and be able to see the amazing difference in him. If not, it is certainly her great loss.
