We finally have our head above water! It has been a very, very busy month! So much to learn and do and remember!
It is such a wonderful blessing to be around all of these missionaries! We have a few from America each transfer, but most are from Africa. They are incredibly bright. They have an amazing knowledge and recall of the scriptures and such powerful testimonies. They are definitely here because they want to be. They have worked hard to be able to have this opportunity. Many have finished up their schooling before they even come. Last time we had a CPA, a business graduate, and a medical Dr. (He had finished all of his schooling, but has his residency left to do.)
We are in charge of these missionaries 24/7. We all live here at the MTC. We take them to the Joburg Temple every Tuesday and once during their stay here they hear from one of the Area Authorities. We begin their 3 week stay with an Orientation Fireside and then do several others during their time here such as The Book of Mormon, Christlike Attributes, Baptizing and Confirming, Temple Preparation,(Most of the African missionaries have not had the opportunity to receive their endowments so we do that after they get here). Goal setting and Planning, Becoming a Missionary, etc. We are in charge of all the Sunday meetings. We hold Church right here in the MTC.
There are six amazing teachers here who do a wonderful job of getting them ready to go out there and spread the gospel. Our manager, Mark Mocke, is a fabulous teacher as well. He does a lot of the training in what we call LGM's (Large Group Meetings).
We also have days and evenings when we pose as "investigators" so that they can practice teach. We bring others in from the area to help us with this. It is such a great experience for them.
I have posted a lot of pictures this time so hope you don't get bored with it all.
